If anyone knows how to
bring horse racing enthusiasts together it is Sharon Lenton and to kick off the
Autumn Carnival, I was lucky enough to attend ‘The Royal Luncheon’.
Dress: Grace & Hart
Jewellery: Nicholas Haywood
Hat: Decjuba
For those of you who are
not familiar with Sharon’s events, Thoroughbred Events Australia is a company
that supports and promotes all talent within the thoroughbred industry
including people, ex racehorses and of course fashion in racing.
Special guests included
the lovely Kellie Fewster Portelli; Amelia Ann Curic, president of Northside
Riding Club; newly appointed director on the ATC board, Angela Belle McSweeney
and Trish Egan, the Vice Chairman of the ATC.
One of the great
parts about the luncheon is the millinery exhibition which showcases some of
the best milliners in Australia including the likes of Neil Grigg, Cynthia
Jones Bryson, Kathleen Brenda Watson, Sandy Aslett, Wendy Scully, Sophie
Allport, Jane Stoddart to name a few and a personal favourite of mine, Heather
McDowall.

Some of the milliners I had
not been familiar with prior to attending The Royal Luncheon, so it was a great opportunity to check out some
different talent on the racing scene.
One stand out for me was
Allport Millinery. Sophie Allport is a young milliner based in Brisbane and
her designs are young, fresh, bright yet simplistic and caught my eye as soon
as I walked in the door.
I tend to be attracted
to more simple and timeless headpieces and her designs reflect just that.
Autumn Carnival colours
tend to be deep rich tones such as navy, grey, burgundy, mustard, emerald green
and traditional black and white and Sophie has it all!
Another milliner on the
day was the one and only Heather McDowall who never disappoints. Sydney based
Luxe headpeice designer knows how to dress women for the races. Between her
floral headwear to her delicate crowns, Heather has a headpiece for
everyone.
Her new range is unique, classy, bold and a step outside the square.
You will stand out from the crowd and that’s what it is all about on race
day.
My favourite headpiece would have to be the gold and floral
crown as it is delicate and simple.
The perfect headpiece for
Golden Slipper Day!
Wendy Louise is an award winning designer, milliner and stylist.
She has been making jewellery for thirty years, with shops in
Newtown, Double Bay and Sky Garden. After moving to Brisbane ten years ago, she discovered millinery was her true
passion.
With her jewelled eye, Wendy is drawn to jewel colours and metalics as
she is a big fan of vintage fashion.
If you love the vintage look, Wendy's pieces are perfect for you as
she uses antique materials and sprinkles her
pieces with timeless jewels.
In particular, Wendy’s crowns are what caught my eye as they are
dressed up in perfect textures and tones for
the Autumn carnival.
