ZAC PURTON TAKES OUT THE HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL JOCKEYS CHALLENGE

On Wednesday night, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) hosted the first night of their annual International race meeting which is called the Longines International Jockey's Championship and it went off with a bang.
Not only did the HKJC produce another staggering turnout with over 29,294 spectators in attendance, but they also had a record turnover for an International Jockey Championship meeting of HK$1.308 billion.

The best part of the night was my brother in law Zac Purton taking out the jockey championship-winning two of the four designated races at Happy Valley aboard 'Our Hero' and 'Let’s Take It Easy'.

Zac Purton riding Our Hero (No.1, red and pink cap) to prevail in the first leg of the LONGINES International Jockeys Championship.

Zac Purton on Let’s Take It Easy (No.4) takes the third leg of the LONGINES International Jockeys Championship in Race 7.

Zac who has been riding in Hong Kong for a decade, has achieved many feats including winning the Hong Kong jockey championship for the 2013/2014 season and ridden over 750 winners in Hong Kong alone. The Longines International Jockey's Championship is one race that Zac has attempted to win five times but has been unlucky. This is another milestone to add to his already impressive career.

“After coming so close before, it’s very satisfying to finally win it, especially with the ordinary horses I drew. I think it adds more merit to it.”

This Sunday night the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races takes centre stage at Sha Tin Racecourse. There will be four group one races to be run including The LONGINES Hong Kong Cup, Hong Kong Mile, Hong Kong Sprint and Hong Kong Vase with a whopping prize money of HK$84.5 million. With all that prize money up for grabs, it will be interesting to see if the Hong Kong team can keep the trophies on home soil or if the international raiders will take the trophies home.

Zac will have four rides for the day including Beauty Only, Gold Mount, Time Warp and Once In Moon.

“It’s a meeting I’ve had a great deal of success at before and one I always look forward to. For us, it’s our biggest International meeting of the year where we put our best horses up against the invading internationals, protecting home turf is always important and on a personal level winning these races are a culmination of many months of hard work. It has a great vibe which we all enjoy.”

I will also have my eyes glued to my Instagram feed to check out what the jockey's wives will be wearing come race day.
