For the first two weeks of January 2018, I was feeling as though I had fallen off the healthy-ban-wagon. After the holiday period I had relaxed my diet and exercise routine and was feeling bloated and little tired. I wanted to reboot my body before starting my eight-week challenge at F45 Matraville on the 29th January. A few of my girlfriends have used the ‘Lucky You Cleanse’ and said they had amazing results. I wanted to find out for myself what effect it would have on my overall health.

Australian based 'Lucky You Cleanse' is a juice cleanse designed to gently detoxify your body while giving your digestive system a break and re-alkalizing the entire system. The detox involves eliminating food, caffeine and alcohol for three to five days (depending on which cleanse you choose), and replacing them with Lucky You Cleanse’s very own juices, smoothies and nut mylks. The goal is for juices to release nutrients from the fibre so you get lots of what you need with little or no load on your digestive system. There are two cleanses to choose from: the classic cleanse and the green cleanse. I chose to do the 'classic cleanse' as I wanted to ease my way into the detoxification process.

The classic cleanse involves a mixture of greens and roots that will reboot your system.
"The cleanse gently purifies the body, eliminates unhealthy toxins, and assists you in returning to a natural state of energy and wellbeing."
The cleanse is spread over three days and involves drinking six 500ml cold-pressed juices a day including one elixir. The 'elixir' is a tonic used to help with digestion, boost immunity, provides antioxidants and reduces inflammation. The last smoothie of the day is the cashew nut mylk smoothie with alkaline water and is great for filling you up before bed while also not being too heavy on your stomach.

"Cashew nuts are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These include vitamins E, K, and B6, along with minerals like copper, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, iron, and selenium, all of which are important for maintaining good bodily function. We also recommend sipping it through the day if you are feeling hungry."

It has activated raw cashew kernals and medjool dates and is definately my favourite choice. For the entire three days you need to eliminate all food and caffeine. Lucky You will provide you with all the information you need including step by step instructions of what to drink first and at what time etc.

Each morning I started with a 250ml glass of warm lemon water to kick start hydration, alkalization and elimination. This was followed by one of the Elixr shots.

Then between 8 and 9am I had my first smoothie. You are given a choice to drink either a green or berry smoothie. I usually drink a lot of green smoothies so it was nice to mix it up with the berry smoothie this time.
Around 10 to 11am there is a choice of green B or green coco H20. For people who love a green juice, you will love these options. I would also add some lemon juice and ginger for an extra kick.

Lunch time (between 12-1pm) I had the spicy lemonade. I really looked forward to this pressed juice! If you love traditional lemonade, you will enjoy this juice as much as I did.

Between 2-3pm was the red juice. This one contains some beetroot. Personally I am not biggest fan of beetroot but it was actually very nice. I squeezed some lemon into this juice each day to add some extra flavour.

In the afternoon around 4-5pm there was a choice between the green A or green zest. I added a little bit of ginger and lemon to most of my green juices for a little bit of a kick. Then the last choice was between the cashew or cacao cashew nut mylk. I tried the cashew nut mylk and it is delicious.

The first day I was a little sceptical about how I was going to manage without drinking coffee and elminating food altogether. In the morning I had to film with William Hill Australia so I decided to pack a few of my juices into a cooler bag and take them off to work with me. Usually, I would have had my first coffee around 7am so I was a little tired when heading to work, but not too bad.
From 10am-2:00pm I was filming and the juices kept me full but also surprisingly I had a lot energy! Usually after work I would go to the gym at F45 Matraville or go for a run but I decided that during the cleanse I would take it fairly easy and go for walks instead. From around 3pm-5pm I did have a little bit of a headache but only from the lack of coffee as I would usually be two cups deep by this point and my body was craving that caffeine hit. Getting out of the house and going for a walk with my dog really helped and was a good distraction. Luckily for me, I had had a terrible sleep the night before I started the cleanse so around 6:30pm I had the cashew nut mylk smoothie and took myself off to bed.

DAY. 2
I woke up on day 2 and honestly felt great. I had such a deep sleep. I tend to wake up during the night (probably from all the caffeine I consume!) but I slept through the entire night and woke up fresh ready to go for the second day. I noticed by day 2 of the cleanse, my stomach looked completely flat but the best part was that I felt amazing. I had already heard from a few people that you feel great during the cleanse and have natural energy and you really do!

Another thing I realised by this point in the cleanse is that I really needed increase my water intake. Caffeine tends to keep me going during the day but it also really dehydrates me. It affects my skin and my mood so that is definitely one thing I will be cutting back on.

I started my morning with a walk with my girlfriend and it was nice to get out the house and push myself to do some exercise. I felt great throughout the day, I was working on my blog but by the afternoon around 3pm I was a little tired and wanted to just chill out and watch a movie.
One thing I loved was that Lucky You sent me an email on day 2 with some tips and a little bit of motivation to keep me going and it really helped including getting out of the house and doing light exercise and reminders to keep hyrdrated.

At night, I noticed that I wasn't hungry as much after a day of the smoothies, it was more the feeling of missing eating solid foods that was hard. A friend of mine who has done the cleanse told me to put the cashew nut smoothie into the freezer and eat it with a spoon. Best idea ever thanks Emma Henderson! That way you can eat it slowly and not gulp it down like I did on day one.

DAY. 3
By day 3 I was ready to take it on! I felt amazing and was pretty damn proud of myself for finishing the two days without any slip up’s. I thought I may have needed to drink a cup of green tea or even have a black coffee throughout the cleanse but I decided to stick with it and really felt the full benefits of the cleanse by the conclusion.

I woke up and not only did I feel amazing but my stomach in particular felt amazing. I tend to wake up feeling a little bloated in the morning but this was the first time in a long time that I didn't have that. I also noticed my skin looked a lot clearer. I made a conscious effort to drink a lot of water and herbal tea so I noticed I looked a lot less dehydrated. Knowing this was my last day also really helped. I got through the day with a walk and chilled out in the afternoon.

After completing the Lucky You cleanse I realised a few things that I needed to change:

1. Increase my water consumption throughout the day.
2. Decrease my coffee intake
3. Stick to foods that my body agrees with. Try to keep foods such as rice, pasta, cheese, milk and sugar to a minimum.
4. Increase more greens and vegetables into my diet. I notice I eat a lot of fruit but not enough vegetables.

A lot of people have asked me if I lost any weight from the cleanse and the answer for me was yes! I lost about 2.5kg over the 3 days but the overall benefit was that I felt amazing.

Overall I’m happy have tried the cleanse. I think my body needed a break after the silly season and now I’m feeling the benefits of it!

For those of you who are interested in trying the Lucky You Cleanse I highly recommend it. I won’t lie, it can be challenging at times and you will need some will power but if you stick with it and remind yourself why you are doing it, it makes it all worth it in the end. Try to set some goals before the detox and then you will be motivated to push through.
If you want to try the cleanse yourself or have any more questions regarding the cleanse, I have added the link below.

Enjoy the Lucky You Cleanse and I hope your experience is as good as mine.
